Fixed Term Agreement Webinars - Series 2

Fixed term employment in schools. New resources. New Approach.

As schools will be aware, recent employment court decisions have brought about a renewed focus on the use of fixed term employment agreements (FTEAs) in schools. NZSTA is committed to supporting schools to understand the changes, manage their use of fixed term agreements and meet their obligations as good employers.

Many of you joined our FTEA webinar series in March and we are now hosting two further webinars to discuss the changes, share the FTEA support resources we’ve created and give you the opportunity to ask questions.

You can register for your preferred webinar by clicking on the links below:

We encourage boards to register for these webinars and to circulate this information to others in your school involved in the employment of staff.

Got an FTEA question for our team?

The FTEA webinars are designed to be interactive and informative. To make best use of the time together, and so we can understand ‘common’ or shared issues, we encourage you to send in any questions you would like answered to: We will then use these questions to generate further discussion during the webinar.

If you have a school - or situation-specific question, you can get in touch with our advisors now on 0800 782 435 (option 2)

NZSTA is here to assist, support and advise you.

  • We’ve created a range of information and resources on our dedicated FTEA webpages.
  • If you have an FTEA template that you have been using previously, please ensure you use the updated FTEA templates. It is important that you DO NOT continue to use your historical documentation.
  • For more background information: While there are legitimate reasons for employing staff on FTEAs, schools may be exposed to a legal challenge for employing staff on FTEAs that do not meet the tests set out in Section 66 of the Employment Relations Act
  • Before you make an offer of fixed term employment, we urge you to contact our team of employment advisors on 0800 782 435 (option 2) or by email:

Our advice is confidential and free to all school boards.
