Primary facilitated bargaining

NZSTA has been part of the facilitated bargaining between the Ministry of Education and NZEI Te Riu Roa, that has taken place this week in the Employment Relations Authority. The purpose of the facilitated bargaining was to see if agreement could be reached on acceptable offers for primary teachers’ and primary principals’ that would avoid planned strike action next week.

Yesterday, the Ministry tabled enhanced offers in a final bid to avoid the strike action. NZEI Te Riu Roa and the Ministry were unable to agree on an approach to consultation with NZEI Te Riu Roa members that would see strikes averted. Consequently, talks were suspended.
NZSTA is aware that strike notices were sent to boards late yesterday by NZEI Te Riu Roa. Boards should continue with contingency plans for the rolling strikes, scheduled to begin in Auckland on Monday. As always, NZSTA is available to assist and can be contacted on 0800 782 435 (option 2) or
